Platter's South African Wines 2009

"Patent and trademark attorney Otto Gerntholtz is one of a small team representing the owners, as are winemakers Thys Louw and Nico van der Merwe, the latter consulting and Thys L vinifying the all-red range at Diemersdal. The name is a Latin word meaning ‘to stand out’, because of the prominence the team believes Cape wines have in the global industry."

Poised 07 cab (65%) with merlot and ptage. Minty choc aromas; rich, lively cassis fruit underpinned by acidity & tannin from 60% new oak. V young; deserves more time.

Liber III RG (4 stars)

Big, ebullient shiraz with splash mourv, ex-Drnville & Swtland. 07 an aromatic spice treat: cumin, coriander & fennel entice & follow through to palate. Seriously styled: firm tannins & acidity, polished oak (60% new Fr, 16 mths); give it time.

Liber I OCG (3 stars)

Youthful 5-way Bdx blnd, cab in lead (50%). 06 spicy, juicy, with cocoa & choc softness, concentrated fruit & balanced acidity. Firm wood tannin (100% new Fr cask) carries 14.9% alc well. - Panel
